2006 Season Information: Solomon started all games and was part of an Offensive Line that allowed only three sacks all season. He is part of a team that finished their regular season 10-0 after an exciting overtime win against Scott County on Oct. 27. This clinched them for both City Champ and Regular Season District Champions. Sol made some key blocks during the game that led to scores and big yardage gains. They entered the playoffs for the district as the number one seed, but lost in the first game.  Prior to the Scott County game, the Generals went to 9-0 on the season after a thrilling defeat of cross-town rival Henry Clay, which was 9-0 and ranked ahead of Lafayette all season. The Lafayette/Henry Clay game was touted as one of the best games in Lexington in 25 years.  He was also on the PAT and FG special teams.

On December 8, the coaches selected the All-City teams for 2006.  Solomon was selected to the Second Team. Sol was also given the 110% Award for the 2006 season for his dedicated effort and hard work.  He was considered one of the team leaders.

Comments from Training Coach (Ed Towle) on Solomon's progress (Aug. 2006):

In my opinion the bottom line is that he has size, if his school work is in order, stays healthy, plays physical, has a good season and looks good on film he could have a chance to play somewhere. He has good work ethics, has made good progress in wt room, I'm proud of how far he has come and it's all because of his effort.

He's not the strongest guy, but his lifts are good for HS and he still has not peaked so he has an upside. He still needs to work on agility and speed and he will continue to get stronger as he matures. He can certainly improve his speed and agility. In my opinion 10 yd dash is much more important to OL than 40 yd. But my opinion does not count, only the opinion of recruiter or college coach matters. I have a chart I use called "High School Football Performance Profiles" which gives percentile rankings for players testing performances in 10 yd dash, 40 yd dash, Pro Agility Run, and Vertical Jump from 100%-5%. Using this chart his current ranking as an Offensive lineman are:

10 yard dash - 90% (1.65 is 100%)

40 yard dash - 35% (5.5 is 75%)

Pro Agility Run - 30% (4.77 is 75%)

Vertical Jump - 55% (25" is 75%)

Lafayette Generals 2006 Preview from the Lexington-Herald Leader (Aug. 18, 2006)

Original link here

Coach: Mike Harmon (sixth year, 31-23)

Last year: 6-5 (lost to South Laurel in first round of 4A playoffs)

Last 10 years: 47-58 (four winning seasons in a row)

Top returnees: Chris Tune (WR/DB); Trey Shaftner (LB); Logan Bunch (QB); Chris Roseland (OL/DL); Jon Straley (OL/DL); Sol Kravetz (OL/DL); Toranio Oldham (NG); Fred Pennington (LB); Demetrius Mitchell (RB); Jake Stephens (K)

Key losses: Enrique Shaw (WR/DB); Travis Albrecht (OL/DL); Jonny Meyer (WR/DB); Scott Bodkin (LB)

Newcomers to watch: Matt Green (LB); Jordan Petit (OL); Tim Franklin (RB/DB); Trevor Fox (DB); Tyler Stephenson (RB/LB); Corey Layman (RB); David Rivera (RB); Tommy Gifford (WR/DB); Chris McAskill (WR); Eric Shaw (RB); Robbie Jackson (DL); Josh Nash (C)

Outlook: When Harmon took over the Generals' struggling program, he fantasized about the day he'd have a team with talent, depth and speed. That day has come. "It's really kind of neat to be able to talk about all the good things we have going for us this year," Harmon said. "Top to bottom, we're more talented and deeper and more athletic than ever." Veterans Roseland,Straley and Kravetz are solid up front. Bunch threw for almost 900 yards as a sophomore after cracking the lineup last September. "He's big (6-3, 215), strong and mobile," Harmon said. Tune, a former QB, is a receiving and running threat. Gifford and McAskill also will be prime targets for Bunch. The Generals have a stable of backs who'll handle the ground game, including Mitchell, Franklin, Rivera, Sleet, Shaw and Layman. The team could get a boost if Stephenson, a Lexington Catholic transfer who sat out last year, finds his stride. Lafayette's defense already figured to be strong, anchored by vets such as Shaftner, Oldham and Straley, but it added an impact player in Green, a LB who transferred from Apollo. And don't forget the kicking game. Stephens, a junior, booms kickoffs into the end zone and was 7-for-12 on field goals last year. "If we cross the 50, we should be able to get three points out of it," Harmon said.

Bottom line: Lafayette has made giant strides the last few years, but the Generals still don't register clearly on the state football radar. "That's OK," Harmon said. "It's easier to motivate kids if they aren't getting respect. We still have to prove ourselves to a lot of people, but all signs are pointing in the right direction."

Player's perspective: "Our hopes are really high; we're going for the state," Shaftner said. "We've got a bunch of key players back on defense, and our offense is going to be good, too. If we come together as a team, practice hard and execute, it's going to pay off on the field."

Lafayette Generals Preview from Bluegrass Preps (2006)

Lafayette (6-5)
Head coach: Mike Harmon
2005: Lost to South Laurel 40-28 in the first round of the playoffs

With the majority of his offense and defense back, Lafayette is ready to challenge for their first regional title since their state runner-up season in 1985.

Head coach Mike Harmon has six starters coming back on offense, led by quarterback Logan Bunch (6-3, 200, Jr.), who completed over 50-percent of his passes for 967 yards and seven touchdowns last year.

Chris Tune (6-3, 205, Sr.) split time at quarterback and receiver last year and should be one of Bunch's top targets in 2006.

Trey Shaftner (6-3, 210, Sr.) is a good blocking tight end that is drawing the looks of some colleges.

The Generals will get some help in the backfield from Tyler Stephenson (6-2, 215, Sr.), who sat out last year after transferring from Lexington Catholic.

With Stephenson in the backfield, Harmon is counting on his offensive line to give his offense time to unfold.

Up front, Chris Roseland (5-10, 190, Sr.) and Sol Kravetz (6-3, 290, Sr.) return at tackle, and Jon Straley (5-9, 190, Sr.) is back at one guard spot.
"We're small up front, but with three starters back, we should be solid there," Harmon said.

On defense, the Generals return six starters from a unit that will need to improve after giving up more than 20 points a game last year.

Teranio Oldham (5-7, 278, Jr.) returns at nose guard, while Straley and Christopher should get the nod at end. Robbie Jackson (5-9, 290, Jr.) also returns on the line.

Shaftner, Fred Pennington (5-11, 200, Sr.), and Zach Currier (6-0, 220, Jr.) headline a linebacking corps that will get a boost with the addition of transfer Matt Green, who was Apollo's second leading tackler last year.

"Our secondary is unproven, and we'll need someone to step up and make plays for us," Harmon said.

On special teams, junior kicker Jacob Stevens hit 26-of-28 PATs and seven field goals last year.

"With what we have coming back, we expect to contend for the district title and battle for the region," Harmon predicted.
